Your location is currently in use

In this article you will find out:

  • how to deal with this issue
  • how to protect your data

Are you ready? Let's read!

About this issue

Some apps, such as Maps, Mail, and Calendar, try to use your location. This is necessary to provide you with information that is right for you. However, not all users like this outcome of events because their privacy is under great threat. In most cases, you will receive this message on the taskbar “your location is currently in use Windows 10.” If location tracking is unacceptable to you, you should know how to disable this feature. This article is devoted to exactly this issue.

1. Turn it off

You can turn off the location function using the Settings app. So, press Windows Key + I, then go to the "Privacy" section. In the left pane, click on the "Location" tab, then click the "Change" button. Now set the relocation option to Off. Now applications will not be able to use your location.

2. Examine accessibility

You can specify which applications are allowed to access your location and which ones are not. This way, you will have control over the applications and maintain your privacy at a decent level.

To grant these permissions, open the Settings app. Next, go to the "Privacy" section, then open the "Location" section.

Next, go to the option Select applications that can use the exact location and want to disable this feature for the applications you. From now on, they will not be able to use your location.

3. Change time preferences

You can set the time zone manually if you are using a desktop computer. In this case, there is no point in automatically setting the time zone.

To do this, open the "Settings" application and go to the "Time and language" section. Now just turn off the "Set time zone automatically" option and close the window. The message "Your location is currently in use" will no longer appear on the taskbar after these actions.

If it doesn't, you should hide the location icon. However, keep in mind that this method will not solve the main problem.

In the Settings app, go to Personalization and click the Taskbar section in the left pane. Next, select "Choose which icons will be displayed on the taskbar" and turn off the Location option.

4. Look for updates

The message "Your location is currently in use" may be due to certain system errors in Windows. Therefore, be sure to download the latest system updates, perhaps it will contain a fix for your problem.

You will also need the Settings app. Next, go to the "Update and Security" section and click the Check for Updates button. Windows will now automatically check for updates and download available updates in the background. After updating and restarting your computer, check if the problem is still there.

5. Work with registry

Change the registry if the previous methods could not cope with the problem. However, do this with extreme caution.

Press Windows Key + R and type regedit and click OK.

Now navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionDeviceAccessGlobal {BFA794E4-F964-4FDB-90F6-51056BFE4B44}

Now, in the right pane, in the value line, set it to Off, save your changes.

Next, navigate to this DWORD SensorPermissionState key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows

NTCurrentVersionSensorPermissions {BFA794E4-F964-4FDB-90F6-51056BFE4B44}

and set Value to 0, save changes and click OK to save changes.
