Steam Service Error Occurs? Fix it Now!

In this article you will find out:

  • how to deal with this issue
  • how to protect your data

Are you ready? Let's read!

1. Turn Off Windows Defender Firewall or third-party antivirus

Try turning off your third-party antivirus software and Windows Defender Firewall. In most cases, this will allow you to get rid of the Steam Service Not Working problem. Go to the website of the antivirus solution manufacturer and read the instructions for disabling the antivirus and apply it.

The next step is to turn off Windows Defender Firewall.

To do this, type firewall in the search bar and open Window Defender Firewall. Go to the Control Panel and click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off. In the new window, go to the Configure Settings section and select the Turn off Windows Defender Firewall option.

Save your changes and start Steam again.

2. Try to run Steam as an administrator

This will give you more privileges and most likely you will get rid of the Steam Install Service Error.

Open the Steam shortcut on your desktop with the right mouse button and select Properties. If there is no such shortcut on the desktop, you can find it in the following path: C:> Program Files> Steam (x86).

Then select the Compatibility tab and activate the Run This Program as Administrator option. Save your changes and click OK.

Now try to reopen the Steam service.

3. Turn on Automatic Start

You can also configure the Steam service to start automatically.

To do this, open the Run command (press Windows + R) and enter services.msc, click OK.

In the new window, double-click the Steam Client Service and you will be taken to the properties window. If the service is active, click the Stop button. Next, in the Startup Type menu, select the Automatic option and click the Start button. Next click Apply and then click OK. Once the window closes, go to Steam.

4. Try System Commands

This method is quite effective and allows you to fix a Steam Service Error using the command line. On your desktop, right-click on the Steam shortcut and select the Open File Location option.

Now copy the full path to the Steam folder in File Explorer (Ctrl + C).

Open the Run dialog box, type cmd and press the Ctrl + Shift + Enter hotkey to open the utility with administrative rights.

Then type the full path to Steam into the command line, followed by / repair and hit enter.

It is recommended to restart the computer after completing the action and then check whether the sSteam Service Not Working problem remains.
