Are you ready? Let's read!

Steam is a popular platform for gamers. The platform connects gamers from around the world, providing a lot of useful streaming features, including the ability to save game progress on local storage. However, you may encounter some errors using this platform. One of the commonest errors you’d experience is the clientregistry.blob issue. Well, this article provides various ways to fix this problem.

How To Fix clientregistry.blob Steam Error

1. Close the App Forcefully

When you encounter the clientregistry.blob error, the first thing to do is to forcefully close the Steam app from Windows Task Manager. To launch Task Manager simply press Windows + ALT + Del keys at the same time.

2. Launch the Steam App as an Admin

If you have admin rights on the PC, re-launch the Steam app as an admin. To run the Stream app as admin simply right-click on the app’s icon and select Run as Administrator.

3. Modify the Clientregistry.blob File

If the error persists after trying the two methods above, then you have to modify the troublesome file.

  • Close the program (Steam).
  • Go to the main directory: C:\Program Files\Steam.
  • Find the ClientRegistry.blob file.
  • Rename it to ‘ClientRegistryold.blob’ (note the quotes).
  • Now, go back and restart the Steam app, a new ClientRegistry.blob file will be created.

4. Reinstall the Steam App

As the last resort, when none of the tips above can’t fix the issue, delete the app and all of its files. After the deletion, clear your PC’s cache and registry (you can use a 3rd-party PC cleaner software for this operation).

Reinstall the Steam app and it'd automatically recreate all necessary files required for it to run smoothly.

How to Retain Your Game Progress

The best way to keep your game progress safe is to back up the folder. Creating backups remains the safest way to protect your important files and documents from being affected even in the case of a malware attack. If you don't back up your files, one day, you (or another user) could mistakenly delete the file, or your hard disk could get affected by a power surge. Anything can happen to cause you to lose the file.

Interestingly, you can always use the DiskInternals Partition Recovery software to backup your Steam game progress regularly. DiskInternals Partition Recovery supports an advanced data backup technology called Disk Image. A disk image saves more comprehensive data than regular backups. Disk images are simply a clone of your HDD/SDD - they also save your hard disk’s configurations.
