What is VMware Host Profile?

Here you will find out:

  • what VMware Host Profile is
  • how to create a VMware Host Profile
  • how DiskInternals software can help you

Are you ready? Let's read!

About VMware Host Profile

Vmware Host Profiles are used to standardize clusters and ESXi host configurations. The vSphere Host Profile features export configuration from an ESXi master host, or saving it as a policy template that can be used to configure other ESXi hosts with the same set of policies and configurations.

However, some configurations can be different for each host (hostnames, IP addresses, etc.). They can be configured for each host using the host setting, or applied to a group of hosts (using a CSV file).

What are the advantages of VMware Host Profile?

With Host Profile for vSphere, you don't need to manually configure the host, and you get consistency across the datacenter. The reference host configuration is saved and then used to set up storage, networking, security, and other settings across multiple hosts.

Use Host Profiles to connect to centralized configuration management and for compliance checking. This way, you save time required to set up and troubleshoot configurations.

How to create a VMware Host Profile

This should be done in several steps:

  • 1. Go to Settings and configure the host to be used as a reference host. The host profile is subsequently retrieved from this host.
  • 2. Create a profile from a reference host (using the New Profile Wizard). All configuration of the reference host (IP addressing, NFS connections) is retrieved from the vCenter Server, which can be edited to further configure policies in the host profile.
  • 3. After creating a host profile, find the host profiles under Policies and Profiles in the vCenter navigation menu. You can then modify the created host profiles; for example: Export, Edit, Duplicate, Copy settings

Is it possible to recover information easily?

DiskInternals VMFS Recovery helps you maximize your data protection abilities, as it is designed to quickly and correctly read the VMware VMFS file system. This utility recovers any files from damaged or healthy disks in VMFS format. All this happens on the Internet, so you don't even have to leave your home.

A phased restore of VMDK images on ESXi and VMware vSphere servers is also available. The program has a unique Recovery Wizard, which, if you need help, will ensure uninterrupted operation and give you extremely positive results. The recovered VMDK data can be exported to local or remote locations, including via FTP.

Follow the step-by-step instructions for DiskInternals VMFS Recovery, and soon nothing will threaten your data:

If necessary, make sure that an SSH connection is set up in advance.

Download the app and after installing on a computer with Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10, or Windows Server from 2003 to 2019, run the Recovery Wizard if you need it.

Open a remote or local drive and start scanning it: full (better) or fast.

Once you find the VMDK files, mount them and you can open them right away and view them at no cost.

Now you can click the "Buy a license" button; you will receive a unique key with continuous access to the exported data.
