There is no hard drive detected or disk controller not supported in RAID? Fix it now!

Here you will find out:

  • how to fix this issue
  • how DiskInternals can help you

Are you ready? Let's read!

This article will focus on issues with the Raid controller, for example, many users report that the Raid controller does not recognize drives. However, this problem is completely treatable and there are many great solutions. First, you should familiarize yourself with the reasons why the Raid controller does not recognize disks. After that, you will be presented with a list of methods to fix the problem.

Why does this error occur?

Some of the most common reasons why “no hard drive detected or disk controller is not supported” are:

  • Smart disk errors.
  • Overheating of the system.
  • Raid may stop detecting Raid drives after a soft restart.
  • Viral infections on the computer.
  • Power surge or sudden shutdown.
  • Problems with device drivers.
  • Metadata conflicts.

How to deal with this error?

Now it's time to find out the actual methods of solving the problem. However, before doing this, it is recommended to restore inaccessible files from your array, since then you will not have such an opportunity.

1. Recover lost data

You shouldn't look for complicated ways of recovering damaged arrays; you can simply download the professional DiskInternals RAID Recovery utility and export the recovered files to a suitable sized device.

It should be noted that this application has been constantly improving for 15 years, and satisfied customers constantly use DiskInternals services and highly recommend this application to colleagues and acquaintances. This standalone DiskInternals RAID Recovery application can recover data from RAID 0, 1, 0 + 1, 1 + 0, 1E, RAID 4, 5, 50, 5EE, etc.

Disk imaging is a great and rare feature for these kinds of applications, and is also available here for free. At the beginning of the process, you can activate the smart built-in Recovery Wizard and feel more confident and relaxed if you are a beginner. Any questions and wishes that you may have can be addressed to the technical support service after obtaining a license. It can be purchased at any time of the day on the company's website online and thus get more features and functions. First of all, this concerns the function of exporting a restored raid to another storage device connected to the system.

Rest assured, even your most difficult problem can be solved with DiskInternals RAID Recovery!

2. Inspection

So, first you need to remove all disks from the Raid stack and connect them to your Windows PC one by one. This can be done with a SATA or SATA to USB converter cable, so your drive must be compatible with a SATA to USB converter cable.

Next, use the built-in Windows utility to monitor the smart disk:

  • If the driver issues a red warning indicating a bad disk, you should immediately clone the disk or try to repair the virtual Raid. This is necessary to avoid data loss.
  • If there are no warnings and everything is fine with the drive, you can use any of the methods below to fix the “no hard drive detected” problem.

3. Work with BIOS

The easiest way to deal with this problem is to check / reset the BIOS configuration.

First, you need to make sure your BIOS settings match your Raid settings. If you notice that there are any changes in the BIOS due to any update or corruption, you need to undo them. If there are no changes, you can also update or downgrade the BIOS. Then RAID should detect your hard drive.

Keep in mind that the BIOS update process may not be all that secure - downgrading to an earlier BIOS version may not be a good idea. Since downgrading the BIOS can be fatal to the system and your system BIOS is corrupted.

You Also need to check the SATA mode selection and make sure Raid is selected instead of the SATA drive.

4. Connect different controller

You can also try another Raid controller and replace it if it is successful. However, this method can only be used if your Raid array is external or networked. If you tried a different controller and the disks are still detected, congratulations - you found the cause of your problem and successfully fixed it.

This method can be problematic for some users, as hardware controllers aren't all that cheap for everyone. However, if you can afford it, then only use this method in the first place. the above methods, they can help you by detecting your hard drive by trying again and again correctly.
