What is Hyper-V clusters?

Here you will find out:

  • what Hyper-V is
  • how to set up Failover Cluster Manager
  • when DiskInternals can help you

Are you ready? Let's read!

Everything you need to know about Hyper-V

Companies that use virtualization of their environment to achieve their goals are primarily concerned about the availability of data and services at any time. Therefore, due care must be taken to avoid a single point of failure in the system. This means the addition of additional hardware or software components that can render the entire system unusable in the event of a potential failure.

Hyper-V provides high availability with Windows Server Failover Cluster Manager. The result is a virtual infrastructure that is resilient to server failures. Typically, a Hyper-V cluster setup consists of a minimum of 2 servers that share the same cluster network and clustered storage resources. If any server failure occurs, the cluster resources failover to the next available server. The end user usually does not notice this, since the services running on the server work without interruption.

Everything happens in an automated process controlled by the operating system.

How to set up Failover Cluster Manager

Each of the servers needs a Windows Server 2012 R2 Failover Cluster Manager. In this example, this will be done on The-Solving-N1 and The-Solving-N2.

The Windows Server 2012 R2 server must be provisioned with the Failover Cluster Manager role, which you can add from Server Manager.

Open the Failover Cluster Manager and select the Verify Configuration option. Then go to the computer's window and enter the server names. Click on "Run All Tests'' and then click on the "Next" button. Check if your environment, network and storage support HA and then click “Test”. The process will start verification on the cluster nodes within a few minutes. As a result, you will receive a validation report, where you can check for errors and warnings that apply to your infrastructure. Then click “Next” to start the Cluster Wizard; remember to select the “Add all suitable storage to the cluster” check box.

Then, when prompted, enter the cluster name and cluster IP address, after which the automatic cluster creation will begin. You need to wait a little; this process takes time.

You can now view the cluster you created in the Failover Cluster Manager and make sure:

  • that both cluster nodes are available
  • that clustered storage is available

How to recover software and hardware RAID

With DiskInternals RAID Recovery, you can recover not only software, but also hardware RAID of any level. Plus, you can create a disk image for free! The program at the highest level supports both manual and fully automatic detection of important and basic parameters such as type of array, RAID controller, stripe size and disk order. You just need to select a RAID drive and RAID Recovery will automatically assemble the RAID array in 5-7 minutes, allowing you to recover your documents, pictures, and more.

The recovery wizard will guide you through all the stages of recovery and will not let you get confused in the process. Thus, even if you are not a professional, there is no reason for even the slightest doubts and worries! You can store recovered files on another hard drive or partition, use virtual disks, or even upload files via FTP. A must-have file preview feature is available before exporting and it doesn't cost you a cent. It is important for the company that you first see what you are buying, and then reasonably decide whether to purchase a license. Moreover, as mentioned above, you can also quickly create a disk image and save it for future surprises. This is a very useful feature for thoughtful and economical people.
