Is it possible to get back old photos?

Are you wondering if it is possible to get back photos from an old family album? Or maybe your phone got damaged, and you had to fix it through a factory reset, thus losing all your memorable photos, and you wish you could have them back? There are a couple of ways to recover old photos, and this article succinctly explains a handful of them.

How to recover old deleted photos

Use Cloud Backup

Not all, but most contemporary photo apps come with a backup feature. Also, if you’re using the Google Photos app on an Android smartphone, there is a high chance of retrieving the photos from the “Trash” folder. Similarly, if your photos are synchronized with your Microsoft OneDrive account, you could get back the “deleted” photos from the “Recycle Bin” folder.

Now, one thing to note is that deleting a photo from your device photo app won't also delete the photo from your cloud storage. Hence, if the picture has been saved on your cloud storage and you’re using a photo app that supports cloud backup, even when you accidentally delete a photo, it doesn't just get deleted, it gets recycled to the "Trash" folder or "Recycle Bin" folder.

Recover old pictures from an SD card

While it may seem easy to retrieve old deleted photos from the cloud, the process is a bit difficult if the photos were previously saved on an SD card and not on a cloud storage app. In this case, the old photos were accessible on your phone gallery app, but saved on your SD card; thus, when you delete a photo from the gallery app, the photo is also deleted from your SD card.

You will need an old photo recovery software to be able to retrieve those photos that you lost. This has to be done fast – SD cards tend to retain deleted data until they are overwritten. Thus, if you delay in recovering the data, it may be overwritten when you add new files.
